Zoho has renamed ZeptoMail, its transactional email service, Zoho CPaaS, Zoho’s Nikkitha Senthil wrote in a Sept. 23 post on the Zoho CPaaS blog. The service now has SMS, WhatsApp and voice channels next to email. Existing email setups don’t change, the post says: “Your SMTP configuration, your API keys, your Agents are all intact.”

Email senders change nothing

Existing ZeptoMail customers don’t need to touch their integrations, according to the post. Their “credentials, configurations, and billing are all unaffected.” The product name in the console and docs will switch to Zoho CPaaS “over the coming weeks.” The old zoho.com/zeptomail address already redirects to zoho.com/cpaas, Outbox News found on Oct. 3.

Email keeps SMTP relay, dedicated IPs and Agents, the ZeptoMail feature for keeping mail streams apart. Zoho’s “What’s new” page, dated September 2026, repeats that “existing email setup remains unchanged.”

Three new channels on shared credits

Each channel has its own API. The console, analytics, compliance controls and “credit-based pricing” are shared across all four, the post says.

  • SMS is for one-time passcodes, alerts and other time-sensitive messages. The post says it handles DLT compliance, a registration rule some countries set for business texts. The “What’s new” page lists SMS “for accounts hosted in India.”
  • WhatsApp sends through the official WhatsApp Business API, with template approval and delivery tracking.
  • Voice places programmable outbound calls for passcodes, critical alerts and verification.

Existing users see the new channels when they log in.

Zoho points to AI agents as the reason

Zoho ties the change to software that sends messages on its own. “AI-powered products send notifications autonomously,” the post says. Customer journeys now “move across channels within a single session.” Zoho says it wants Zoho CPaaS to be “the communication platform that AI agents reach for.” It also says it will not build “an orchestration or agent-building layer.” More channels are planned.

Key takeaways

  • ZeptoMail is now Zoho CPaaS, per Zoho’s Sept. 23 announcement.
  • Email integrations, credentials and billing stay the same.
  • SMS, WhatsApp and voice are live. The “What’s new” page lists SMS for India-hosted accounts.
  • One credit-based pricing model covers all four channels.

The take

We think the rename says more about Zoho’s plans than about its email product. Email works the same today. What changes is the product’s place. A service that did one thing is now one channel of four. Zoho’s stated next step is more channels.

Email developers have seen this before. SendGrid sits inside Twilio, Mailgun and Mailjet inside Sinch, and SparkPost inside Bird. In each case email shares engineering time with texting and calling. One credit pool is simpler to buy than four contracts. But teams that picked ZeptoMail for its focus on email should keep an eye on Zoho’s “What’s new” page. If email items thin out while SMS and WhatsApp get the updates, that shows where Zoho’s attention went.
